We sew a dragon. DIY children's dragon costume: patterns, ideas and description DIY fabric dragon

After the release of the cartoon about brave Vikings who learned to tame dragons, many children and adults have a new idol - the dragon Night Fury - Toothless. Many kids dream of such a toy. With a few efforts, you can do it yourself.

Velor dragon

Toothless looks most natural, sewn from velor or suede - then its sides will evenly shimmer in the sun.

You can make the tip of the tail of a toy, teeth on the spine and claws from the skin. In general, the toy looks equally good in any version of any material - wet suede, leather, yarn. It is very simple to make a dragon with your own hands - it is important to decide on the materials and technique for its manufacture. List of required materials:

  • Velor or black suede
  • Volumetric eyes
  • Black threads
  • Sintepon for stuffing
  • Black and burgundy leather strips
  • Scissors

First of all, you should, based on the patterns, make fabric blanks.

You should start by assembling a pile of head parts. In order to get a head, you need to cut and combine parts A-G. First of all, you should sew parts A along side 1. It should be remembered that Toothless has beautiful horns. They will be obtained if you connect parts E6 and C6. Similar work should be done with parts D5 and C5. Then it is necessary to combine both parts C. All 4 "ears" must be connected near the beginning of the horns with the back part G.

The seam should be on the inside. The rest of the horns are sewn from parts F7 and B7. The head will be ready if you combine parts C3 and B3, and then BC with A. You also need to stitch on the B2 and A2 sides. The next step is to create Toothless's torso. To do this, cut out from the fabric and connect parts J and K. Next, you need to attach part V to the sewn parts. As a result, a line of spikes should come out located in the middle of the back.

Next, you need to cut out the details G and L and sew together in the places marked on the pattern as "ears". It is very important that a hole remains between the two Q parts (it will be convenient if it is located below the protrusion of the chest). This hole is needed so that the toy can be turned inside out. The R, S and T parts, which are scallops and wings, need to be put together. You need to embroider them based on the dotted lines on the front side. P should be applied to the combined QL parts.

To get the torso, you need to match the QPL parts with the JK. The topside of the wings should be 5cm from the top, on the JK's shoulder. So, the triangular ridge S, should begin where the wing ends. Similar actions are done with the parts U, S, T, W. You need to make sure that when turning the craft onto the front side, the combs will be outside.

An important detail - Toothless has received damage to the tail, and part of it must be made of fabric of a different color. Legs need to be sewn from parts M, N, O. The finished craft should be filled with padding polyester and the hole left in section Q sewn up. Eyes can be made yourself from fabric, but the toy will look most impressive with voluminous eyes.

Erect Toothless

A toy that stands on its hind legs looks quite original. When creating it, the main attention must be paid to the torso and hind legs - in general, the structure must be stable. List of required materials and tools:

  • Velor or black velvet
  • Black felt for horns and feet
  • Wire
  • Leather or leatherette
  • White felt for eyes and teeth
  • Fabric adhesive
  • Fabric paint
  • Needle and thread
  • Scissors

Such a Toothless is simpler in execution than standing on four legs. So, his head consists of only four parts - the back of the head, the chin and two identical halves for the face. All parts are neatly sewn together so that the seam is in the middle of the muzzle. A little below the seam line, several teeth should be glued. Gray paint indicates Toothless's nostrils. Horns, ears, and spines can be made flat by cutting them out of felt. Toothless's eyes consist of several parts - an eyeball, a black pupil, and a highlight. First, all the parts are glued together into a solid composition and only then they are fixed on the dragon's face. At this stage of work, you should be careful - if you glue the eyes asymmetrically to each other, the dragon will "mow". The body of the dragon consists of four parts - two identical details of the chest, two identical details of the back. Everything is sewn together and stuffed with padding polyester. Spikes are sewn along the seam on the back. The tail of the toy should be an integral part of the back, this should be foreseen when choosing a pattern. The front and hind legs must be sewn perpendicular to the body, having previously filled them with padding polyester. The claws can be painted with fabric paint. A dragon with thin movable wings will look good. This is possible if you make them from leather or leatherette, planting them on a wire base. The flexibility of the wire will allow you to freely change the shape and span of the wings.

Girlfriend for Toothless

In order for the little dragon not to be bored alone, you can sew a girlfriend for him. It should be performed in the same way as Toothless itself, but with minor differences. So, it is desirable to make it from brighter materials - a pink or yellow fabric is quite suitable.

An important feature is that the girlfriend must have a one-piece tail, so no overlays are needed on it.

There are many more techniques in which a toy can be made. Developed imagination and skillful hands will help you create a unique craft.

The mound is best made from non-flowing materials. The toy can be a full-fledged toy or a cloudy composition, whatever you like.
All major parts are marked for ease of sewing.

Our Python is not as evil as the story goes. He is even very funny, as a toy should be. To work on this dragon, you can take fleece or velor in two colors. It will take you a little time to sew toys. And now your Pifonchik will be an addition to the dragon collection that you could collect during this thematic week.

You can use any fabric to work on this cute dragon. The main thing is that bright juicy colors are present. And you can make it in blue and blue tones to keep the traditions of the coming year.
Eyes can be made of plastic, you can use beautiful glass eyes for bears, or you can use eyes with a shifting pupil. All parts are attached to the body with hinges. The wings and ears are sewn tightly into place.

For work, you can take any fabric with which you are comfortable working. All the beauty according to the author's version, you will do later using beads, bugles, sequins, etc.
Attach the paws to the body with a rope hinge or using articulated discs and cotter pins (if the toy is large).

As with previous dragons, it is better to enlarge the pattern. There should not be any particular difficulty in sewing, but there is one subtlety - this is the dragon's head, or rather the mask. First, sew two parts of the head, turn it out. Put a little padding polyester inside and stitch the finished part along all the lines. When everything is ready, sew on the bottom part called "jaw", it needs to be cut from stretch fabric. Now you can put the resulting mask on the dragon's head, sew the eyes on the mask and finish decorating the toy. Such a formidable dragon with a mask on its head can decorate your collection today.

Another intricate pattern that you will use to sew a magnificent dragon. Of particular difficulties, it is worth mentioning the head, which consists of a large number of parts, but the designations on the parts will help you. First, enlarge the pattern, because it will be very difficult to sew a small dragon.

As it was said, the toy is very difficult, because it is not enough to sew this dragon. It needs to be brought to mind.
Start sewing with the head overlay. It consists of two pieces of fabric and a piece of padding polyester. Sew, turn out, insert a piece of padding polyester inside, sew up the hole. Now you need to make a line to add volume. After manufacturing, this pad is simply put on the head and fixed at points a, b and c.
You also need to make the legs, just fill it tighter and also make a line along the dotted lines. You will have to sew off the tail and belly.
The legs are attached to the body with buttons (rope hinge), only take the buttons with a loop, cover with a piece of fabric and only then make the hinge.
The strip for this dragon can be chosen from a collection of glass colored eyes, best of all to pick feline, green.

The most interesting thing about this toy is the paws. Each foot has three parts. An assembly diagram is shown at the bottom of the pattern sheet. This technique makes the toy more stable, and the use of hinges will allow you to give the dragon different poses.
At Emerald, the comb on the back is not sewn between the parts, like in most toys, but is sewn on top, so it is better to cut it out of a thin non-friable fabric, and when sewing it on a little.
Eyes can be made with applique, or you can use eyes from an online store - those that are most suitable for forming a finished image :)
Good luck! Sew with pleasure for fun!

You can use different colors of fleece to work with this pattern. If you cut a comb from a thin fabric, then be sure to cut two pieces with a fold. The comb is sewn into the mid-head incision and continues all the way to the tail. And if you take a fabric that does not fray, then you can cut out one part of the comb.
The tail has four parts. Cut the bottom piece out of the same fabric as the belly.
On the paws, after they are sewn and sewn into place, you can tighten with a strong thread that will highlight the fingers. You can also sew claws.
It is best to take plastic eyes with a shifting pupil.

You will need two colors of fleece for work, and you can also use any fleecy fabric or short-piled fur. Please note that, in addition to different options for the hind legs, you can use the pattern with or without the frontal part. Do not forget to cut the comb for Drakosha's back, it is not on the pattern. Also, don't forget to make a small spike in the nose of the head. By Lora Lenz

To sew a toy, you need to take a fleecy fabric of two colors - darker for the torso and legs, lighter for the abdomen. It is better to embroider the eyes if the toy is intended for a child under 3 years old or use eyes with a moving pupil of the required size. Mouth - embroidered by Olga Zhuravleva

To make this dragon, you need to be patient and first cut out circles (the number is indicated on the pattern), then each circle must be assembled along the edge on a thread and pulled off. From the obtained circles, the whole body of the dragon will be assembled, you can assemble it on an elastic band, for this, simply cut a hole in the center of each circle and thread the elastic band. You will need to sew a head to the first mug, and a tail to the last. Two legs are also assembled from small circles (seven for each leg). The wings are also sewn to one of the circles. If you are just starting to sew, then use everyone's favorite fleece. A skilled craftsman can make this dragon out of any fabric. A particularly cute toy is obtained from bright chintz, silk, etc., but the edges will require processing with a PVA solution (1: 2 - 1 part PVA, 2 parts water) or an over spoon.
The toy will be a very good gift for your loved one.

A cute and not at all evil dragon from the depths of the Internet, sent by our users. Use faux fur, wings can be made from fabric or leatherette.

To make a toy, you need green, yellow, red and white fleece. You need to make spots from red, if you like this option, and from white - eyes balls with beads and pupils.
On your head, wash a tuft of fleece cut into strips half a centimeter wide. Optionally, you can make a comb from head to tail.

Children for the holiday choose costumes of cartoon characters or animals. For them, this is an opportunity to reincarnate and try on a new image. In this article, we will take a look at the dragon costume. This mythical animal is found in fairy tales of all countries and acts as a good and evil hero.

Great choice

The dragon is always portrayed as mighty and brave, evil and kind at the same time. His unique ability to fly and breathe fire always attracts little children. But not everyone dares to try on this image. Courage and courage are masculine qualities, so a dragon costume for a boy is better suited. This does not mean that girls may not even consider such a costume option. On the contrary, such an idea will be very unusual; there are hardly any analogues.

What should a child's costume consist of?

Undoubtedly, each parent has his own vision of the mythical dragon, but there are obligatory details, without which the image of the dragon will not be complete. Here is a list of them:

  • a cape or cloak with spikes;

You can selectively use this list by creating a suitable kit. For example, a dragon costume can consist of the following parts:

    masks and wings;

    caps, wings and tail;

capes or cloak with a hood.

It is worth paying attention to some details, such as shoes and clothes. The image looks harmonious when using green and red colors. Take the time to choose clothes and shoes to match, and get the best dragon costume. The children's party, for which the costume is being prepared, involves outdoor games, so make sure that the child is comfortable and comfortable to move.

Cape

This option is quite convenient and easy to manufacture. If you have an unnecessary one, you can redo it. To do this, it is enough to sew soft spines on the head and along the spine. They can be cut out of a regular kitchen sponge and glued onto double-sided tape. And you can sew from fabric by filling with cotton wool. These soft spikes are a must when creating a look.

If you are ready to sew your own New Year's dragon costume from a cape, then be sure to add a mask to it. Choose a fabric of a suitable color and cut a semicircle with scalloped edges. Sew some braid or tie around your neck and your dragon costume is ready. The advantage of this option is that the edges of the cloak can be left unprocessed, but left intact.

Overalls

This option is suitable for those who have an old jumpsuit in their wardrobe, and if you can sew it yourself, it will be a big plus. But we will consider the option with a ready-made overalls.

All we need to do is decorate the finished item. Soft spikes, sequins, stripes, in general, everything that you find at hand will be used. Be sure to sew on the wings and tail of our dragon, and also choose shoes in color. And the dragon costume can be considered ready. The children's matinee, which the child will wear this costume, lasts quite a long time, so consider whether it will be hot in the overalls.

Headdress

You can choose a hat from several options: a cap and a hat, we will consider each of them.

Before sewing a hat, take measurements of the child's head so that the product fits. The material that is suitable for this should be dense, but at the same time not rigid. You can sew by hand, but if you have a sewing machine, you can use it, it will speed up the process. A good option is felt, as shown in the picture below, the dragon's hat is sewn in several steps.

If you don't want to bother and have chosen the option with a cap, then all you need is to decorate the hat. To do this, you need felt, scissors and hot. Cut out the eyes and thorns from the felt, glue these parts with a glue gun. Do not forget that a cap or hat must be complemented with a cape. You can see the decor options in the following picture, or you can come up with something of your own.

Mask

The materials from which you can make a mask are very diverse. You can use cardboard, colored paper, cloth, plastic plates. The dragon carnival costume will turn out spectacular if you choose fabric as the material for the mask. The mask can be sewn three-dimensional with details or flat.

For the second option, it is enough to cut out the base from the fabric, sew on the elastic and add details. It is better to choose colored cardboard for the mask, this will simplify the manufacture. If you use white, you can paint it with paints in a continuous layer with your child or draw scales.

If you choose a voluminous option, then be prepared to spend a little more time. It is better to use several shades of the same color, and choose cotton wool to fill the details. Be sure to wash your nose, eyebrows, horns, and thorns. And then the mask will have a realistic look. Below you can see one of the options for a volume mask made of felt and a tail. Which, by the way, can be sewn according to the same principle, filled with cotton wool or padding polyester.

So, the dragon costume is made by hand, it remains to add a few touches so that your child is the most beautiful and happy.

For a greater holiday effect, you can paint your child's face with paints. Draw scales, menacing eyebrows and circle the mouth. But this option will not work if you have chosen a mask.

Decorate your child's shoes with soft details. To do this, cut out triangles from felt or cardboard, which will act as claws, and put on glue.

Pay attention to the baby's hands, gloves will be needed to complete the dragon costume. It is necessary to stick claws on them according to the principle of shoes. It is better to use cloth for the claws, it will be stronger on the gloves. It is necessary to glue with silicone glue on each finger. And remember to respect the color scheme.

The option of making fire as an addition to the costume is possible. After all, as everyone knows, dragons breathe fire. To do this, you can cut a flame out of cardboard, paint it with paints. And then glue it on a wooden stick with hot silicone. It is enough for a child to bring the flame to his face, and the effect of a fire-breathing dragon will already be created.

A dragon costume for a girl can be sewn from the same details, just choose more delicate colors. Shades of red and pink will do. Choose natural fabrics for sewing a suit. Pick up a skirt to match with tights, braid two buns of hair - and the cute dragon is ready.

CHEERING DRAGON

CHEERING DRAGON

This cute dragon can be made from pink, green, blue fleece, or wool, although it is a very difficult fabric to cut and sew. Despite the simplicity of the pattern, working with a complex fabric will require some skills from a novice master. If you do not take such a fabric, then even people who do not often hold a needle in their hands can make this toy.

You needFleece, wool, knitted fabric or any other fabric of two contrasting colors (light and dark green), felt or drape, thick oilcloth (wing seal), black beads or ready-made plastic eyes, synthetic winterizer or other filler, flexible wire, strong sewing thread to match the fabric, fine thread, paper, thin cardboard, pencil, needle, pins with heads or rings, scissors, chalk or dry thin bar of soap.

Progress

Increase the pattern of the dragon to the desired size, transfer it to paper in full size, cut out, glue the body parts, aligning the control circles on the pattern and prepare templates from cardboard (Fig. 52).

Before opening, you should carefully study all the details of the dragon pattern, then cut out the required number of details. All parts are paired, except for the extension of the tail and the middle part of the head, these parts should be cut one at a time. Place the patterns of the dragon toy pattern on the fabric of the desired color, then start cutting.

The ears and wings are two-colored, so you need to cut 2 pieces of fabric of each color.

First, sew the head, legs, wings and ears. To do this, attach the side of the head to the middle part, combine the notches, split the parts with pins and sew first one half, then the second. Sew the second side part of the head to the middle part in the same way. With proper stitching of the parts, the ends of the middle part of the head should close at the back of the head. For the convenience of further processing, seam allowances in rounded places must be cut. Leave the hole open to turn the workpiece out.

Figure 52. Patterns of the toy "Jolly Dragon"

Now you need to sew the upper limbs, wings and ears. Sew the feet completely, leaving no holes so as not to break the shape. To turn the legs out, carefully cut small holes in the upper part of each leg along the share thread. In all corners of the legs, make cuts in the seam allowances. Sew wings and ears from fabric of two colors. Turn out all the sewn parts.

Faux fur parts should be cut with the sharp ends of scissors, cutting only its base, but not touching the pile. Otherwise, the fur will not be cut where it was required.

Sewing the body of the dragon should start with sewing the parts of the tummy, folding 2 parts of light fabric face inward. They need to be sewn on the less convex side, this will be the middle of the dragon's abdomen.

Having sewn and straightened the seams of the abdomen, sew a continuation to it - the dragon's tail.

Now you need to sew the lateral parts of the body by sewing the legs to them: sew the lateral parts of the legs to the body, with the exception of the lower part, since there will be feet.

Then, on each side, pin the feet so that their highest point coincides with the junction of the body and the side of the leg, then sew in the feet.

Now you need to sew the belly to the side parts of the dragon's body, starting from the neck, through the leg and up to the tip of the tail: first on one side, then on the other. Carefully straighten the seams.

Cut out the serrated parts of the dragon's mane from felt or drape, insert the part that is longer between the side parts of the tail. Secure the part with pins, then sew it in, heading from the body to the tip of the tail.

Sew the shorter part of the mane into the back of the dragon. Since the mane is still longer than the back, its tip will stick out. You can use two options: either cut the mane along the neck, or sew this part into the dragon's head. However, the second option is more laborious.

Cut all seam allowances on the body to a minimum, make cuts in the corners. Turn the torso to the front side.

Before assembling the dragon, stuff the body, head and legs tightly with filler. Pull the ears from the side of the light fabric so that a notch is obtained. Place the ears in the corners of the hole on the back of the head and sew them in with a blind seam. The hole after sewing in the ears can be left unstitched in order to later sew part of the mane here.

First, make small incisions on the back of the head on both sides of the junction of the middle part of the head.

Attach the head to the body, attach it with pins, insert the free end of the mane into the incisions on the head. Secure it with pins.

Now sew the mane to the dragon's head with a blind stitch from top to bottom. After the mane, sew the head to the body with blind stitches in a circle.

Sew the legs with a blind seam to the body so that the holes through which the parts were turned out are facing the dragon's body.

Completing the design of the dragon, you can make stitches on its tail and tummy with a seam by a needle, slightly grabbing the stuffing.

Figure 53. Soft toy "Cheerful dragon

Cut out small circles - nostrils from light fleece or felt, sew them to the dragon's head with a loop seam. Attach ready-made eyes or sew on beady eyes. To strengthen the wings, cut out details from a dense rigid oilcloth, you can use an office folder.

Roll the details into a tube, put them in each wing, then straighten them inside.

Sew each wing along the perimeter on a sewing machine, mark the membranes. Sew the dragon wings to the back with a blind stitch. A cute and somewhat pot-bellied dragon is ready (Fig. 53).
