The Health Committee of the Volgograd Region and medical organizations, together with the Volgograd Regional Center for Psychological and Pedagogical Assistance to the Population, on May 15, 2017, is holding the Regional stage of the "Family of the Year" competition, timed to coincide with the International Day of the Family.

Come, we are waiting for you!

On September 20, 1993, the UN General Assembly adopted a decision, according to which May 15 every year, since 1994, is the International Day of the Family. And 1994 was declared the International Year of the Family.

Every year, the holiday is preceded by the publication of a message from the UN Secretary General on the organization's official website, which indicates the theme of the Family Day of the current year and highlights the main directions and wishes for resolving issues on the leading topic. It is different every year, but always relevant.

The theme of the Day 2017: Family, education and well-being.

This year, the focus is on the role of the family and public policy in enhancing education and the well-being of people.

This Day aims to raise awareness of the role of families in promoting early education and fostering a love of learning in children and young people. You should also remember the important role of all participants in the educational process: parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters.

“On this Day, we urge you to pay attention to positive examples of how busy parents find the time and energy to pay attention to their children. The positive experience of companies and organizations providing support to working parents is also useful. On this Day, we would like to emphasize the importance of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, ”reads the 2017 Family Day message from the UN Secretary General.

The family is one of the institutions of our society, which has undergone many changes in recent years, but has retained the most valuable thing - love and respect between parents and their children. The usual word "family" hides in itself a complex, sometimes even fragile, but always the leading concept of our society and is its foundation.

The family theme is always relevant

Around us in the country, in the world, there are always so many phenomena and events that require our attention. With the daily stream of news and the fast paced life, many people forget about the really important and meaningful things. For example, about your family and your relatives. The founding of a family, relationships with relatives, the birth of a child and his upbringing are issues that almost everyone faces. And sometimes he has to overcome the obstacles that have stood in the way of the development of his family in the huge system of public administration all alone. After all, the problems of a particular family usually have little meaning and weight on the scale of the whole country. But when the fundamental rights and freedoms of one family are violated, the whole of humanity is under threat. After all, the family is the primary cell in which the formation of a person as a person and a citizen takes place.

There have always been a lot of problems and questions for improving the quality of life of each family, and the solution to many is possible only at the state level. And one of the ways to draw the attention of the public of different countries to family problems is to draw their attention on a global scale.

Voicing and emphasizing a specific topic is just a way to direct the efforts of states and their citizens to solve the next acute social problem. At all times, in relation to the attitude of society and the state to the family, according to the position of the family in society, the development of the country was judged. This is because a happy union of family and society is a necessary guarantee of the prosperity and well-being of the country and its citizens.

In the Russian Federation, International Day of the Family has been celebrated since 1995. And 2008 was declared the Year of the Family by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation.

Today, family support is one of the priority areas of state policy in Russia. In early May 2008, the President of Russia signed the Decree “On the Establishment of the Order of Parental Glory”. This award, established to encourage citizens of the Russian Federation, is awarded to parents or adoptive parents for their great services in strengthening the institution of the family and raising children.

Our International Family Day is becoming more and more popular among the population. Indeed, the International Day of the Family is another excellent occasion to remember the problems of young and low-income families, to pay attention to the upbringing of family culture in the already established and only planned “cells of society”.

So, for example, in recent years it has become a tradition to hold mass family holidays with contests and relay races between families and to organize contests for the best married couple or the best parents. Such holidays are held at the level of children's organizations, professional groups, and even the best families of the region or city choose. Social centers and public organizations with various actions and events draw the attention of the public and the authorities to the problems of orphanages and adoption. Officials congratulate long-lived married couples on a gold or even diamond wedding, and newlyweds on this day can receive souvenirs from the registry office employees. Educational institutions also do not forget about this holiday: kindergartens, schools and libraries, where mass events are held, contests for the most friendly, healthy, athletic family, etc. A positive moment in the organization of this holiday is that such events and actions are held throughout the year, the society is actively involved in the life of families.

The life of a person begins with the family, here he is formed as a citizen. The family is a source of love, respect, solidarity and affection, something on which any civilized society is built, without which a person cannot exist. So let's build friendly, real and happy families!

Information and methodological material

Family is the most important and most valuable thing in the life of every person. Most of the fond memories that a person carries through his entire life are associated with his family.

This article is for people over 18 years of age.

Have you already turned 18?

Family Day, which has international status, has already passed - it was celebrated all over the world on May 15, 2017. But there is no special secret in what date it will be celebrated again in Russia - the date does not depend on the change of the year, week or country. Therefore, the day when International Day of Families is celebrated is unchanged - May 15 of each year. This was established by a decision of the UN General Assembly.

The goals pursued by this international organization are quite simple - to draw attention to the problems of family and marriage. Although their problems are different, they are very similar on a global scale. For example, the issue of HIV and AIDS remains very painful. The problem of abortion remains an important and very controversial one. Of course, intelligent family planning is a sign of a civilized society, but at the same time, such operations have strong condemnation among members of the clergy of all religions. It is this problem that is raised when the All-Russian Day of Family, Love and Fidelity is celebrated. The action in support of this day is called "Give me life."

Another global problem is education. Its deficiency brings another misfortune to family life - poverty. There is also an inverse proportionality - children from very poor and disadvantaged families do not even have the opportunity to receive even primary education, which deprives them of the chance for a normal life.

On the day when the International Day of Families is celebrated, various actions, flash mobs, conferences in support of the traditional family are held and assistance is provided in solving the main problems of each cell of society.

All-Russian Day of Family, Love and Fidelity: the story of the holiday

The holiday of the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity in Russia has a short but significant history. The idea of a family holiday arose a long time ago, but it was only possible to translate it into reality in 2008. There was no special debate about the date of the holiday, since there was already a celebration glorifying the marriage union - the day of veneration of Saints Peter and Fevronia. This church holiday has long celebrated the love and mutual responsibilities of a married couple. This can be safely called the Old Russian Valentine's Day.

These saints were especially revered among young people who were striving to create a new and strong marriage. But the traditional holiday went into oblivion along with the October Revolution - the Bolsheviks simply could not allow the veneration and celebration of a religious holiday. And in this they were very successful when, in the first years of their reign, they completely abolished the institution of the family, as such. Years of outright debauchery forced them to rethink and again return to traditional marriage, but the return to the former reverence for the family never happened. How did it turn out? The fact that post-revolutionary marriages became more fragile, disintegrated faster or were unhappy.

Such tendencies are primarily associated with the fact that Soviet youth have become more frivolous about marriage, faster to create alliances and be guided by completely different rules of family communication. And the point here is not at all in the general emancipation of women - in ancient Russia they were completely self-sufficient, and until the revolution, no one was surprised that a man was only the formal head of the family. The problem turned out to be deeper: without spiritual kinship, families were not strong enough and able to withstand all life's problems.

But be that as it may, over time we managed to return to the roots and remember our roots and what is really worth believing in. It was at the time of spiritual perception that the wonderful story of Saints Peter and Fevronya, who lived in the 13th century in the glorious city of Murom, was recalled. Peter was the son of a prince, whom life itself forced to tie the knot with a simple girl, the daughter of a beekeeper. The future prince first deceived the simpleton, promising to marry in exchange for healing from leprosy. Fevronya, although she was a God-fearing Christian (at that time there was still no division of faith into Catholic and Orthodox), but, nevertheless, she knew how to heal with herbs and prayers (this is what the modern church condemns). The girl healed Peter, but the guy did not keep his word. As a result, at God's command, the disease returned, and he still had to get married. This frank misalliance caused a storm of talk and indignation among the boyars, but Peter could not break this word a second time and chose voluntary exile instead of the prince's crown. As a result, he was returned to the throne and Fevroniu was recognized as a full-fledged princess. This story is not even about love (although there was one), but about how important it is to take marriage vows seriously. People, unfortunately, often throw words to the wind, and then do not restrain them, which is fundamentally wrong. How can couples be happy who easily forget about their vows?

As for love, it occupies a key place in the relationship between Peter and Fevronya. They are considered the standard of harmony in family relations, because they were united on the marriage bed, and in worldly life, and in the rule of the principality, and, of course, in faith. The latter played a major role in their lives, because in their declining years they both took monastic tonsure and began to be called David and Euphrosyne. He went to a men's monastery, and she went to a women's one. But they loved each other so much that the Lord received their souls on the same day. Religious traditions did not allow them to be buried together, but the next day the body of nun Efrosinya rested next to her beloved husband. The second time they did not separate them - so they lie together under the arches of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary to this day.

It is to them that women and men who want to find or keep a family go. And these saints really help, because their main value has always been their family.

As you can see, the story of these saints is a hymn to the traditional family and pure sublime love. Therefore, it is not at all surprising that it was July 8 (the day of veneration of these saints) that was chosen for the All-Russian Day of Family, Love and Fidelity.

Day of family, love and fidelity: how is it celebrated?

It is customary to celebrate the national holiday in honor of the family in Russia on a large scale. On this day, various concerts and festivals are held to popularize the traditional institution of marriage. What does it mean? This is the promotion of the state registration of the family and its church consecration through the great sacrament of the wedding. A civil marriage, no matter how convenient it may seem, cannot be considered a full-fledged family in every sense. It is practically invisible neither for the state, nor for God. There are especially many problems with the first one, because in fact both spouses just living together are not legally protected, they may have problems, both with the registration of children and property. And most importantly, such an alliance is not sealed by any vows, which means that it does not imply any responsibility of the parties.

During the celebration of the All-Russian Day of Family, Love and Fidelity, it is customary to celebrate happy unions that last more than 25 years. It is they who are a living example of how to love and carry your feelings through the years and storms of life. Family unions, which have crossed the threshold of a quarter of a century, are marked with state commemorative medals "For Love and Fidelity." This is not only a statement of the fact that two people have lived together for 25 years - it is also an example for future generations, who will also build happy and strong families.

As mentioned earlier, in Russia, within the framework of the Family Day celebrations, the action "Give me life" is also being held. Its importance can hardly be overestimated if the fate of pressing fertility problems and the rapid aging of the nation. The demographic crisis and the harsh condemnation of abortion by the church have long been a stumbling block between women and the public. That is why on Family Day it is so important to remind about the sacred meaning of every girl - to be a mother. But this does not mean at all that this violates her legal right to independently dispose of her own body. This is just an opportunity to remind you of ways to help avoid a fatal step, as well as a reminder of where to go in a difficult situation.

The family is an irreplaceable brick of society, which must be sacredly honored not only during a world or national holiday, but also every day.

The family is a unique social institution that plays the role of a mediator between a person and the state. Carrying out important social functions, it affects the processes of formation and development of the entire society. The strength of families and the stability of their well-being determines the level of development of the country's economic, social and cultural progress. Consequently, the prosperity of the entire state depends on the domestic policy regarding the family and its position in society. The family is entrusted with the main mission of educating the younger generation of morality, high spirituality, patriotism and responsibility for the fate of their homeland. Providing assistance in this is the direct task of any civilized state.

Family holiday history

To familiarize all branches of government and society with the problems of modern families, a family holiday was founded. International Day of the Family 2017 will be held with the aim of motivating public organizations to create or participate in events designed to strengthen family unions, develop a fashion for marriage, love, have children and find ways to solve problems that arise in all areas of the family's living space.

Family Day is an international thematic holiday

Family problems have always been on the list of priorities in all civilized societies. For the first time, the UN General Assembly undertook to draw the attention of the world community to a demographic catastrophe, a deep crisis in families and the loss of family values, having designated 1994 as the International Year of the Family. And in 1993, the date was determined when the Family Day would be celebrated at the international level. This day became May 15, which, since 1995, is also celebrated in Russia as one of the state family holidays. Each holiday expands its scope with a new topic-problem, relevant for Russian families. During the existence of the project, the theme has never been repeated. Over the years, Family Day was held under the motto of many important family issues:

  1. "A healthy lifestyle for a family is a stable future."
  2. "Balancing work and family responsibilities for the benefit of the family and society."
  3. Poor Families and Social Exclusion: Problem Solving.
  4. “Disability in Families”.
  5. "The Impact of AIDS and HIV on Family Welfare."
  6. “Building Families: Partnership and Equality” and other topics.

The purpose of the events organized for the International Day of the Family

At the heart of all the activities that are held on the day of the holiday are tasks that are vital for families:

  1. Study of the problems, functions and way of life of modern families.
  2. Implementation of state family policy, development of a legislative framework for finding and solving problems facing Russian families.
  3. Compliance with Laws by Governments and Society.
  4. Development of projects of programs to provide assistance to socially unprotected families, protection of the rights of children, single-parent families, etc.
  5. Budget financing and planning of funds for the implementation of family projects at all government levels.
  6. Organization of educational, healthcare, cultural events, family vacations, etc.

These and other topical issues for Russian families will be discussed by psychologists, sociologists, doctors, teachers, government officials and other public and private organizations at seminars, conferences, symposia. Experts of all levels will sum up the results of the implemented last year's programs and projects, and the organizers of the events will announce the families who have become winners in contests, promotions, nominations and will present well-deserved prizes and awards. Traditionally, the celebration of the International Day of the Family will end with concerts, festivals, flash mobs or entertainment shows.

Since 1994, international family day has been celebrated around the world on 15 May. Its history began in 1989 - it was then that the first attempts were made to create a tradition of celebrating this day. It took five years for the UN General Assembly to legalize this and give the day international status. The goal is to draw the eyes of the world community to contemporary problems, the loss of family values and the decrease in the importance of the institutions of family and marriage, and the rallying of members of the unit of society. The importance of the event is explained by the fact that this institution is one of the main social institutions, the initial stage of human socialization. When the holiday was established, the UN hoped that on May 15, various festivals and forums should be held that would draw attention to the topic. And so it happens. In 2017, International Family Day will be celebrated for the 22nd time, and its popularity is growing every year. The topics that are touched upon at various conferences, forums, are subsequently resolved at the state and world levels. This distinguishes this event from the rest.

Traditions of International Family Day 2017 in Russia

The holiday in our country began to be celebrated a year later, as it was established by the UN. For more than two decades, Russia has developed its own traditions. Every year on May 15, a solemn ceremony takes place in the Kremlin, at which the "Family of Russia" prize is presented. The Order of Parental Glory is awarded to large Russian cells of society. On this day, interesting events are held throughout the country: round tables, festivals, concerts, open lessons in schools and much more. The goal of the festive program is to promote family values and increase the importance of the institution in society. These events do not go unnoticed. They are bearing fruit in the form of increased marriage and fertility rates.

Family Day is celebrated all over the world and the date of the holiday was set by the UN General Assembly back in 1993. Every year a topic is chosen for this day and messages from the UN Secretary General are published on it. In addition, in many countries, the holiday helped define a range of extremely important issues.

Setting a date for the celebration of International Day of the Family is intended to alert the public to the many problems faced by many families. It was proclaimed on September 20, 1993 and, according to the UN Secretary General, the unity of the entire human family is under threat if the rights of one of the cells of society (family) are violated.

So, since 1994, the world began to celebrate the day of the family on May 15 - the main element of society, the keeper of culture, human values, a factor of development and stability, as well as the historical continuity of generations. In addition, the well-being of the people and the development of the state directly depend on the family. It was by the position of the family in society that one could judge how the country treated it.

How to celebrate family day in different countries of the world

In many countries, whole strategies for demographic development have been developed, and it is customary to hold public, educational and festive events directly on a holiday. Especially for this day, trainings for young families, meetings of married couples with extensive experience of living together, thematic conferences and workshops, TV programs dedicated to the topic of the family are planned, as well as concerts and charity events for children from low-income families, large couples and foster families.

Also, every year for the International Day of the Family, a topic is chosen, on which, subsequently, messages to the UN Secretary General will be published. In 2017, the motto of the Day is: "Family, education and well-being."
