What you need in the hospital for childbirth. The most complete list of things in the hospital. What you may need after childbirth

In the last months of pregnancy, starting from the 36th week, a woman, as they say, should be on full alert. At any time, the little one can "knock" and "ask for the light." Contractions, after which almost always, begin suddenly, and the expectant mother must grab the things she had collected earlier and run to the hospital.

From personal experience

The first fees to the maternity hospital followed a strict schedule, which was announced in the antenatal clinic. I don't remember what it included, but only the package was modest, as a result, my husband ran to the hospital, sometimes with a spoon, then with a pacifier, then with pads ...

The second time I became smarter and the list "downloaded" from the Internet. My husband looked at my fees at the hospital, to put it mildly, with surprise. "Are you moving?" he asked as I packed a huge bag and put it next to three bags. And then! A set of bed linen, a small electric kettle, a hairdryer, books, magazines and even an MP3 player are already a rather big package. And a lot of everything for the baby, for the doctor, and for yourself, your beloved. Well, I did not forget about him (they got together to give birth). Where is he without slippers, a robe and a razor?

As a result, I went to the maternity hospital with a "mini-set", and my husband reported everything else as needed. Thank God that he had the patience then to convince me that I would not need everything in the hospital. I can imagine how the workers of the maternity hospital would meet me. For the third time, I will certainly get together without unnecessary things, but with everything necessary.

In the meantime, let's talk about what you need to take to the hospital and what you shouldn't.

Traditional list

Each maternity hospital has its own characteristics, and the lists of necessary things are very different. For example, if in the maternity hospital where you are going to give birth, there is hot water by the hour, otherwise there is none at all, then you will simply need an electric kettle. Therefore, be sure to consider the conditions of the hospital.

But still, the main set is traditional things, without which you cannot do even in the most modern maternity hospital with all the amenities.

Documents

  • Passport (without it they will not be discharged from the hospital);
  • Exchange card (without it they will be sent to the observational department);
  • Agreement with the hospital (if any);
  • Insurance policy (if any);
  • Passport, sterile clothing for the accompanying person (for partner deliveries);
  • Money.

Personal hygiene products

  • Soap. In some maternity hospitals, liquid soap and disposable towels are required;
  • Toothpaste and brush;
  • Toilet paper;
  • Towels;
  • Disposable diapers (useful for both baby and mother);
  • Pads (special postpartum pads are sold, but some doctors advise using ordinary torn sheets);
  • Underwear (comfortable briefs (several pieces), nursing bras, breast pads for them);
  • Clothing. It is desirable to have two nighties with a top comfortable for feeding, a dressing gown for the season, slippers (must be washed);
  • Cosmetics (in case you cannot do without face and hand cream).

Things for baby

This list is the most enjoyable and should be given the most attention.

  • Diapers (it is best to take a whole pack of diapers for newborns, because you will not be able to wash diapers if you are determined to use them in the future);
  • Wet wipes (however, in order to avoid allergic reactions, it is better to wash the baby with clean boiled water using ordinary cotton wool);
  • Baby skin care products (powder, diaper rash cream, lotion);
  • First aid kit (be sure to care for the navel, ask your pediatrician about everything else);
  • Disposable diapers.

Pacifiers, bottles, and formula are controversial.

Baby clothes

Choose your clothes based on the season. The number of things should be sufficient, but not excessive. Size - from 56 to 62. Wash and iron clothes beforehand. You will need:

  • Hats;
  • Bodysuits or undershirts;
  • Knitted blouses;
  • Diapers (thin and flannel);
  • Socks, thin mittens;
  • Blanket.

Prenatal and postnatal first aid kit

Check with your doctor for a list of medical supplies. Each maternity hospital requires certain medications, and some offer their own, or ask to buy them as needed. However, it will not be superfluous to buy some pharmacy "means":

  • Bandage and cotton wool;
  • Syringes, venous catheter, dropper;
  • Oxytocin;
  • Cedgood;
  • Sterile medical gloves;
  • Glycerin-based laxative suppositories;
  • Ointment for nipple cracks;
  • Digital Thermometer;
  • Hydrogen peroxide;
  • Zelenka;
  • Tincture of calendula.

Things to check out

It is not necessary to take a package with these things with you to the hospital. It will be brought to you just before you leave. It should have smart clothes for the baby and mom. Please note that the items in which you came to the hospital will not suit you at discharge.

Other

  • Still water;
  • Herb tea;
  • Biscuit.

You may also need the following things:

  • Breast pump;
  • Dishes;
  • Electric kettle or boiler;
  • Thermos.

However, do not rush to pack everything in bags for the hospital. These things should be in a conspicuous place so that, if necessary, the husband can see them and bring you to the hospital.

List of "absurdities"

You can find fault with all of the above. For example, why a breast pump, when in the first days there is no milk at all, but only colostrum, which, as it seems to every mother, is not enough for the baby, so they are in a hurry to feed the baby with mixtures.

Or cosmetics. It is hard to believe that the newly-made mother will have time to paint her lips and eyelids immediately after giving birth. But, to each his own. At discharge, I want to be at full marathon.

However, there are more absurd things in the proposed lists:

  • Clock;
  • Knitting;
  • Books;
  • MP3 player;
  • Sandwich with cheese;
  • Washing powder;
  • Basin;
  • Baby monitor;
  • Pillow;
  • Night lamp;
  • Elegant dress;
  • Limousine and others.

However, if you see the meaning in these things, then feel free to take them to the hospital. The main thing is that you feel comfortable and comfortable. Good luck!

Especially for - Tanya Kivezhdiy

Calculating the exact date of birth is still beyond the power of modern medicine. In only a small percentage of pregnant women, it eventually coincides with the preliminary calculated date. In other women, with a normal pregnancy, labor can begin at any time at 36-42 weeks. Therefore, it is so important to be fully armed in the last month, because with the beginning of labor, there will be no time to collect the bag.

In this regard, the expectant mother needs in advance think over and make a list of thingsthat she and the baby will need. It will be better if at least the documents are already collected in you. From now on, they should always be with you: childbirth is an unpredictable thing.

Usually, 3 bags of things are being prepared to the maternity hospital for mother and child: what is required during childbirth, things in the postpartum period, things for a newborn baby. It is also worth preparing in advance for discharge. Next, we will consider in detail the things necessary in the hospital, what should be in which bag, and what is undesirable to take with you to the hospital.

Documents for the maternity hospital

Documents are something without which you cannot be accepted in the maternity ward. Therefore, it is with them that you need to start preparation. The list is standard for all regions of Russia. So this is what is needed.

  1. The passport, insurance pension certificate and medical policy, as well as a photocopy of the first page of the passport.
  2. Exchange card from the antenatal clinic. This is a very important document that the gynecologist gives you. It contains information about the general course of pregnancy, the results of tests and ultrasound examinations. In the absence of her, you can easily be admitted to the infectious diseases department or hospital, as under-examined. In addition, the doctor will not have comprehensive information regarding your condition, which can create certain risks during childbirth. Starting in the 3rd trimester, carry the card with you in your bag at all times.
  3. Generic certificate or a contract with a maternity hospital of your choice. The certificate is issued at exactly 30 weeks in the antenatal clinic. If you have not been observed anywhere, then get it at the hospital itself. You can also choose any maternity hospital in advance and conclude an agreement with it. In this case, coupon No. 2 of the Generic Certificate is not payable.
  4. Referral from antenatal clinic... It will be needed if, for whatever reason, you want to go to the hospital in advance.
    Things for mom

Bag for mom in the hospital: a list of things

Mom bag can be divided into 4 parts: before childbirth, during childbirth, after childbirth and at discharge. Note that each maternity hospital has its own rules in this regard. Somewhere it is enough to take only slippers, but somewhere other things are required.

  • kettle and tea bags;
  • necessary medications;
  • entertainment in the form of books, magazines or crosswords;

During childbirth

What should I take with me to the hospital for childbirth? To the delivery room you need to take:

  • lightweight rubber slippers (in many maternity hospitals it is possible to take a shower during labor);
  • nightgown and bathrobe (issued in many maternity hospitals);
  • a small towel or wet wipes (wipe your face during labor);
  • warm socks (during childbirth you can get cold);
  • compression stockings or elastic bandage (for women with varicose veins problem);
  • clean drinking water without gases (often thirsty during childbirth);
  • elastic bands and hairpins;
  • mobile phone.

After childbirth

Here are the things you will need during the postpartum period:

  • hygiene products (we will consider in more detail below);
  • 2 nursing bras;
  • a bathrobe and 2 loose wrap-around shirts (for the convenience of feeding your baby);
  • comb, elastic bands and hairpins;
  • face and hand cream;
  • cream for cracked nipples (based on panthenol);
  • breast pump;

  • water, tea bags, snacks in the form of dryers or crackers;

On discharge

Collect the bag with your belongings separately. It will be brought to you just before the event. This includes: cosmetics, clothing and footwear. Make sure everything is warm enough, as a nursing mother is still very vulnerable after giving birth. Also, clothes should be free and comfortable, because a few days after giving birth, the forms are far from being the best.

Hygiene products for the maternity hospital

Pharmacies sell ready-made kits for mothers in the postpartum period. You can also buy everything you need separately. So, here's what you need in the first days after the baby is born:

  • hygienic pads with a high degree of hygroscopicity (for the first few days);
  • ordinary gaskets (for the subsequent time);
    5-10 pairs of disposable hygienic mesh panties (skin after childbirth should breathe as much as possible);
  • breast pads (to avoid milk leakage);
  • sombrero pads for the breast (may be needed if the shape of the nipples is retracted and for the child);
  • paper toilet seats and soft toilet paper.

The list can be ended with a standard set: toothbrush and paste, soap, shower gel and shampoo.

Things for the baby in the hospital

What to take to the hospital for a child? Perhaps one of the pleasant activities of expectant mothers is to prepare things for a newborn at the hospital. It is necessary to take diapers, baby hygiene products, and also some clothes to the maternity hospital. Pay attention to every detail.

  • Disposable diapers. For a newborn, a small package of 0-5 kg \u200b\u200bor 3-6 kg is suitable. When choosing, pay attention to the quality of the material from which the diapers are made.
  • Baby soap choose fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. Liquid soap with a dispenser is best.
  • Cotton swabs specially for children with a restraint. Perfect for cleaning ears and nasal passages.
  • Children's nail scissors... Many babies are born with rather long nails and need to be trimmed for convenience.
  • Wet wipes, baby cream and diaper cream. Essential for maintaining hygiene.
  • Diaper... They are often given in maternity hospitals. However, if you want to use yours, you can also take them with you. The wards are usually warm enough, so only cotton diapers can be used. For convenience, you can stock up on several disposable diapers.
  • Undershirts or bodysuits and romper... Optional, but you can take them if you are against full swaddling from birth. 4-5 pieces are enough.
  • Anti-scratch mittens and caps made of fine cotton (2 pcs).

Baby for discharge

You can take your clothes for discharge with you right away, or you can ask your husband or other close relatives to bring them to you later.

"Winter" baby you will need: a diaper, a flannel undershirt, warm socks, a flannel diaper, a bonnet, a warm hat, a winter envelope with a ribbon or a transforming overalls.

"Off-season" the baby will need everything the same, only the winter top is replaced with a less warm one. In such weather it is important not to confuse the baby, but at the same time to protect from the wind and other "delights" of the weather.

"Summer" newborn you can get by with a diaper, a thin cap, socks, undershirt and romper. The option with a diaper is also suitable. The look is completed by a light, beautiful envelope with a ribbon.

The future father, if desired, can attend childbirth... To do this, he needs:

  • fresh result of fluorography;
  • changeable shoes, robe and cap;
  • the passport;
  • the necessary tests according to the rules of a particular maternity hospital.

On the day of discharge dad should have 2 bouquets of flowers (wife and midwife) prepared, a small present (for example, a box of chocolates). You can take a camera or pre-order shooting of the event.

What not to take to the hospital: a list

There is no need to be zealous in the process of collecting the "emergency suitcase". After all, you will only spend a few days in the hospital.

To save yourself extra luggage, check that the following items are missing from your bag:

  • decorative cosmetics;
  • perfume;
  • synthetic clothing;
  • food that spoils quickly and is prohibited during GW;
  • medicines (in the hospital you will be provided with everything you need, if necessary);
  • notebook;
  • a lot of books.

Video about the list of things for a bag in the hospital

We invite you to see a short a video about what things to take with you to the hospital... Here you will see the most important points from our topic, told in an accessible language.

What you need to take with you to the hospital should already be carefully laid out in the bags and neatly displayed in the corridor. After all, when the moment of the onset of childbirth comes, there is simply no time for thought and long gathering.

By 36 weeks gestation, the bag should be collected

Try to approach this issue in advance. This will add to yourself a sense of confidence and complete preparedness for the upcoming event.

Try to divide all your belongings into several bags: things for yourself, a separate bag for the child, and don't forget a small folder for documents. Also divide what you need before and after childbirth into different bags.

The first list of what to take with you to the hospital, namely before the baby appears:

  • rubber (or other washable) slippers;
  • bathrobe;
  • a shirt or T-shirt in which you will give birth;
  • magazine or book;
  • telephone, photo camera, video camera;
  • things that the baby will be dressed in immediately after childbirth (sliders, bodysuit, cap, socks, diaper);
  • a bag of medicines, the list of which is usually said by the gynecologists with whom you are registered, in each maternity hospital it has its own.

After collecting this package, be sure to sign it, like everyone else, so you can be helped in case of anything.

List of required documents

With documents, everything is simple - you need to have with you:

  1. exchange card with all analyzes and ultrasound results;
  2. passport (if you are giving birth with your husband, take his document as well);
  3. some money;
  4. insurance policy (if any);
  5. if childbirth is unplanned, referral to the hospital;
  6. when you decide to give birth in a paid clinic, take a labor contract.

The folder with the documents should lie somewhere on top, as you will need it immediately upon arrival at the maternity ward.

Which robe is better?

Here are a few small tips that will add to your comfort later on:

  • When buying a dressing gown for a maternity hospital, initially consider the fabric from which it is sewn. Choose only natural, hypoallergenic materials that are non-irritating and breathable.
  • Also, the robe should not be too long, or extremely short. Suitable length - knee-deep (± 4cm).
  • Pay attention to the clasps. For prenatal and postnatal wards, for ease of feeding, do not take gowns with many buttons or buttons. The best choice would be a zipper or a wrap-around robe.
  • A big plus will be the presence of many pockets. Better if they are deep and zipped.
  • Which dressing gown is better to take to the hospital also depends on the time of year. In winter, it is usually warm enough in the postpartum wards, but anything can happen. And it is better to take this factor into account.

Maternity nightgowns should be selected according to similar criteria.

What to take from food?

Nobody will give you food during contractions. So the question of what to take from food to the hospital is a little pointless. Of course, if someone goes with you in support, you can take a couple of sandwiches with you, but this is an individual matter (and then there will be other food). In the ward where you will lie after childbirth, you can take biscuit cookies, kefir 1% fat, and low-fat cottage cheese, the rest is at the discretion of the doctor. Better take a bottle of still mineral water.

Things for a newborn

For crumbs, all clothes must be washed in baby powder and ironed. So throw away your prejudices, and do not put the purchase of nappies-vests on the shoulders of a newly-made dad at the last moment. Moreover, it is so nice to choose the colors and style of outfits for the little toddler herself.

A complete list of things that the baby will need:

  • several diapers from chintz and bikes (firstly for the crib, and secondly for changing);
  • thin blanket;
  • liquid cream soap that is suitable from the first days of life;
  • baby wipes and dry wipes;
  • a set of clothes for every day (a combination of undershirts with high sliders or a bodysuit with ordinary sliders is very convenient) + socks, scratches and a hat for each;
  • baby cream, powder;
  • hydrogen peroxide, cotton pads, ear sticks and brilliant green for treating the navel;
  • diaper packaging;
  • disposable diapers in the crib.

a) wet wipes; b) body

If you are thinking how many disposable diapers to take to the hospital, take several packs, as they may be needed not only by the baby, but also by you. And all because women in labor in the first month after childbirth are characterized by very abundant spotting (lochia).

What diapers to take to the hospital?

It is difficult for inexperienced parents to deal with diapers, but this is temporary. For the first days of life, the smallest sizes (from 2 to 5 kg) are suitable. They are usually marked with 1 on the packaging. Do not buy large packages (or several), as the baby grows very quickly and in another week you will need diapers one size larger.

When choosing which diapers to take to the hospital, also pay attention to the presence of artificial fragrances and flavors. They can irritate the baby's delicate bottom.

What you may need after childbirth

A young mother needs to take 2 bags with things to the postpartum ward: for use in the ward, and for discharge. In order not to forget everything you need, you can even print out a list of what to take to the hospital.

List for mom for the period of stay:

  • 2-3 nightgowns (do not take pajamas with trousers), it will be more convenient for you if they are intended for feeding;
  • a set of underwear (you can buy disposable panties) and socks for every day of your stay;
  • charger for phone, books, magazines, player;
  • linens;
  • cup, spoon, fork, plate, knife;
  • packaging of tea bags, zoological cookies, sugar;
  • a bottle of water without gas;

a) water without gas; b) a cup with a spoon

  • an electric kettle or boiler;
  • garbage bags (you can also put dirty clothes in them);
  • if your husband is with you in boxing, he will also need sterile clean T-shirts, trousers, slippers;
  • shower gel, washcloth, shampoo, toothbrush and paste;
  • liquid baby hand soap, a roll of paper towels (you need to wash them before picking up the baby);
  • cream or ointment for cracked nipples, for most primiparous will be salvation when feeding;
  • disposable diapers (packaging), toilet paper;
  • a bath towel;
  • comb, a pair of rubber bands;
  • gaskets.

a) postpartum pads; b) towels

Check-out list (including for a child):

  1. a beautiful outfit, it can be a dress or a suit, but the main thing is to take into account the peculiarities of the figure after childbirth;
  2. footwear;
  3. a cosmetic bag with decorative cosmetics to be a beauty in all photos, but remember, perfume will be superfluous here;
  4. spectacular hair clip or hoop;
  5. a beautiful set of clothes for the baby (body or undershirt, sliders, socks, cap);
  6. if the baby was born in cold weather, you need to wear a dress suit or lightweight jumpsuit on top, and another hat on the head;
  7. an envelope or a beautiful blanket, also choose according to the season.

a) an envelope for an extract; b) cosmetics

What pads to take to the hospital?

There are special postpartum pads, they are large, and are designed for the abundant discharge of the woman in labor. But they cannot always be found (especially in small towns). For their replacement, you can buy regular night pads. Doctors recommend using those whose upper ball is made of natural materials, then air circulation is maintained. But many girls continue to use the firms they are already used to.

If you are in doubt about which pads to take to the hospital after childbirth, take several options, the main thing is that the size is as large as possible. And remember to change them as often as possible, at least every time you go to the bathroom.

What to take in the cold season - autumn and winter?

When there is a collection in the hospital, what to take with you in winter is not very different from the "summer" list. In the delivery and postnatal wards, it is usually warm (on average 25 ℃), and it may differ only in the clothes for the mother and baby for discharge.

What to take with you to the hospital? Putting the bag to the hospital! What to take with you to the hospital? How to properly assemble a bag for mom and baby and not forget anything?

Mommy bag and toddler bag

It is worth preparing for the emergence of a new life in advance. After all, as you know, the expectant mother can find the process of childbirth at an unexpected time and in an unexpected place. Things for mom and baby that may come in handy at the hospital need to be collected 2-3 weeks before the immediate forecast date. Otherwise, it will be necessary to ask relatives to do this, who, of course, can confuse and not find, in general, it is better to do everything for the expectant mother herself.

The things that you need to take with you to the hospital can be roughly divided into those that the mother needs and those that the baby needs.

List of maternity hospital fees (approved by a neonatologist):

Insurance policy

Exchange card with the results of the necessary analyzes

Generic certificate

1. Slates;
2. 2 bathrobes:

you carry one in the ward and it is better to make it lighter,

the other is in the corridor, toilet, for meetings with relatives and it is better that it be warmer, because can ventilate corridor rooms

3. Hygiene supplies:

toothpaste

toothbrush

comb

2 baby soaps in soap dishes (one for hands, one for a child)

4. Dishes: cup, spoon, mug
5. Diapers for the little ones (do not be afraid of infertility - this is a myth! Because spermatogenesis begins in adolescence, and before that you can wear diapers, go to the bathhouse, etc. Moreover, overheating affects the spermatozoa that mature specifically in those 72 days in which a person is going to have babies. And modern diapers remove heat and moisture from the body better than a wet poop diaper. By the way, according to the reviews of familiar mothers, the best diapers are the Pampers company. A child in the first month of life does his business 20 times a day - count on it
6. Disposable women's swimming trunks (about 6 pieces, they are sold in pharmacies, I saw them in RichToys);
7. super absorbent pads (no more than 1 package, because at first they use sterile cotton diapers, which are given in the maternity hospital);
8.2 nursing bras (not underwire), choose a size larger than prenatal, because breast enlargement due to milk;
9. disposable absorbent pads for a bra, better more expensive and better quality at the rate of 2 pieces for every 3 hours;
10. postpartum bandage, helps muscle contraction, early cessation of secretions and prevents stretch marks;
11. cream for stretch marks (if you plan to use it);
12. rectal suppositories with glycerin (they will help to go to the toilet on the first day after childbirth, you can still suppositories for hemorrhoids, because such a problem may arise after childbirth);
13. The drug for increasing lactation "Mlekoin". You can buy later, if necessary. This homeopathic medicine should not be combined with herbal teas that improve lactation, because the opposite effect is obtained; The normal volume of milk is produced with frequent latching to the breast, the psychological comfort of the mother and favorable psychological contact with the baby). There is a lot of milk for 2-3 days and it is necessary to ensure that it does not accumulate in the breast for a long time, if the child does not consume so much, then it is imperative to express it in order to avoid mastitis - temperature, pain, antibiotics, surgeons, etc. No need to use perfumes, deodorants, because the natural smell of mum and milk intuitively helps the baby to get used to and establish contact during feeding.

14. Breast pump (you can manual, it is cheaper and does not depend on the availability of an outlet. The best company Philips Aventa). Required already in the hospital;
15. Protective pads for breastfeeding (in case of cracks). You can not buy right away, but find where they are sold and buy on demand;
16. Wet sanitary napkins, disposable handkerchiefs;
17. Wound healing agent, for example, Bepanten cream is suitable for diaper rash of a baby and irritations, injuries to the mother's chest (the baby does not immediately know how to eat right, so you need to put the baby to the chest, touch the cheeks with your finger and when he opens his mouth, apply so that he grabs with his mouth not only the tip, but the entire areola;
18. Hygienic lipstick (in case of dry lips, in fact, you can anoint the same Bepanten);
19. Mobile phone with charger; The phone and the charger have been used for years and are the dirtiest objects of our life, like money, so you need to get used to periodically wiping the phone with at least something, in the maternity hospital, do not put the phone on the child, next to the child, in the crib, etc. And also wash your hands after talking on the phone.

20. Pen and notebook for recording pressure during labor, intervals between contractions, doctor's name, advice and appointments

21. Towels (for the shower, face, hands, intimate hygiene and for the little one);

22. Toilet paper - white, soft in a clean cellophane bag. After childbirth, it is better to use soft wet wipes for intimate hygiene;

23. A set of clothes for the baby for discharge (diaper, sliders, blouse, cotton hat, socks) and an "envelope" with a wide blue ribbon for binding the envelope (If there is no ribbon, then they will tie it up with a bandage and will be bandaged in the photo later :) Before relatives will give the extract.

24. Hats and socks, blouses and sliders can be worn on the child even during the days of stay in the hospital, because it can be cold or draft, only new, clean ones are needed every day (by the way, all things that are purchased or sewn by a child need to be washed and ironed.

25. Money. I'm not sure what is needed, but just in case, just a little
26. Clothes for mom for discharge (comfortable, clean, prepared in advance). Relatives will be handed over before discharge. Clothes 2 sizes larger than before pregnancy or something worn at the beginning of pregnancy. Because after giving birth, it is impossible to return to 44 in 3 days.
26. Thin socks for mom - in cases of examination by a doctor and warm terry socks - during childbirth and after there is a chill

27. Drinking water (0.5-1 l bottle, no more !!) In the maternity hospital, you can already fill it
28. New shaving machine.

29. Disposable toilet seat covers (sold in pharmacies)

30. Hair ties. Headbands, invisibility - hair must be tidied up. Wear a scarf on your head during feeding.

31. Anti-scratches. Kids chaotically move their legs and arms, touching their face and being very frightened - mittens or undershirts with tightly sewn sleeves are required.

32. Car seat for the baby for discharge.

If you have to buy pacifiers, nipples for bottles, then it is better to choose orthodontic and be sure! made of hard material (not like the Soviet ones, soft, yellow) and also always with a small hole. All this is necessary so that the child gets used to working with muscles when feeding and the sucking reflex is formed correctly, and orthodontic notches are necessary for the correct laying of the tongue and the formation of the correct bite. If it is easy for a baby to get food for himself through a large hole in the nipple, he will simply refuse breastfeeding, in which it is impossible without muscle work.

The list turned out to be chaotic (deviations from the list recommended in a particular maternity hospital are possible)

Try to sort things into groups: necessary for childbirth, after childbirth, for discharge.

After the labor begins and before leaving for the hospital, you should not eat, because nausea may occur during labor. Water acidified with lemon drops can help. Prepare in advance and refrigerate.

Relatives should be prepared to collect dirty laundry regularly.

At the first visit, relatives can convey at the request of the mother:
1. drinking water (if there is no desire to drink boiled water in the hospital);
2. tea (if you want), only sugar cannot be added to it (it gets into milk and causes gas in the child), it is better to replace it with fructose from the pharmacy. The same applies to all sweet products - condensed milk, juices, sweet yoghurts.
3. Yeast-free bread or biscuits like "biscuit" - without yeast and sugar;
4. Milk. Fermented milk products (kefir, snowball, etc.) can cause diarrhea in a child. Concentrated foods (condensed milk, juice, mayonnaise, etc.) cause allergies, as well as red, orange and other allergens (read more below about the nutrition of a nursing mother)

5. Boiled meat;
6. Vegetables, but only cooked (for example, stewed).

Relatives should be ready to feed the mother upon returning from the hospital, not with salads, fatty chicken and cake, but with foods permitted for a nursing mother (read below) and preferably not be seduced by a forbidden feast, so as not to increase the effect of postpartum depression on the mood in the family.

Bag for mom (what we take with us to the hospital)

The most important thing that you need not to forget, and even more, always have with you at the 9th month - documents:

Insurance policy;
exchange card with the results of the necessary analyzes;
the passport;
direction;
phone to be always in touch with family.

If childbirth is paid, you must take a contract.

For the period of childbirth you will need:

Stopwatch watch for measuring contraction duration and frequency;
drinking (still mineral water or herbal tea for childbirth);
wet wipes;
slippers (washable).

After giving birth, the following will be useful:

High absorbency sanitary napkins;
Bathrobe, home suit, nightgown, pajamas;
two nursing bras (preferably with a front closure);
underpants;
socks (warm, but not woolen);
handkerchiefs;
toiletries

You can take some entertainment with you, for example, a player, crosswords, knitting. In addition, there will certainly be a desire to make notes about the first days of the baby's life, his impressions, therefore, a notebook, a notebook with a pen will also not be superfluous.

Toddler bag

A bag for a maternity hospital for a baby: diapers (you need to take a small amount, because you should check how the child will react to them);

2-3 sweaters, undershirts, bodysuits (all cotton);

2-3 long sleeved blouses;

2-3 pairs of sliders;

Socks, booties;

Anti-scratch socks and mittens;

A pair of thin and warm (flannel) bonnets;

Discharge clothing just has to be seasonally appropriate.

All clothes for the baby should be pre-washed and ironed very carefully to avoid allergic reactions and irritation.

There are issues that cause controversy, they relate to the need for a pacifier in the maternity hospital and the need to feed and supplement the baby from a bottle.

Of course, just in case, you can take a pacifier, after making sure that it is intended specifically for babies from birth to three months. But some argue that using the nipple so early may make the baby less likely to breastfeed while getting used to it.

In many maternity hospitals, young mothers are strongly advised to supplement their baby with a bottle. This point must be taken as seriously and responsibly as possible. Firstly, if the baby is additionally fed with mixtures and supplemented with boiled water or glucose solution, there is a risk of developing dysbiosis, indigestion and simply introducing an infection into an immature organism. Second, as with the dummy, bottle-sucking contributes to inappropriate sucking skills. Indeed, with the nipple, only the muscles of the cheeks are mainly involved, and when sucking on the breast, it is necessary to work with the muscles of the tongue.

If the hospital rules allow you to bring food with you, you can ask to bring:

Mineral water without gas;
fruits (green apples, bananas);
dried fruits (prunes, raisins, but in no case dried apricots);
boiled meat (lactating mothers are not allowed eggs and poultry)
Black tea.

When the long-awaited moment of discharge comes, it is important not to forget important things in the hustle and bustle:

Pick up the exchange card;

Pick up a sheet with a description of the child's health (to clarify what procedures were done, vaccinations, with the introduction of what drugs);

Inform the children's clinic about the birth of a child and invite a patronage nurse.

Around the middle of the third trimester of pregnancy, you need to decide what to take to the hospital. It is necessary to do this in advance so that by the 36-37 week the necessary things will be collected. After all, childbirth may begin earlier than expected. And fees on the day of childbirth are fraught with the fact that you can forget many important and necessary things. Before you start getting ready, you can check with your hospital what you need to take with you and what is unacceptable to take. Each hospital has its own rules and recommended lists.

Basic principles

  • Collect the necessary documents in a separate folder or file.
  • You need to collect things strictly in plastic bags or bags. According to the sanitary and epidemiological regime in maternity hospitals, it is unacceptable to bring things in fabric or leather bags.
  • We are preparing 3 packages for the maternity hospital: for the delivery room, the postpartum ward and for discharge. This distribution will help you quickly find the right thing at every stage of your stay in the hospital. It will be even better if the bags are transparent.
  • Put a list of items in each bag.
  • You can leave the package for discharge at home and tell your relatives to bring it on the day of the special event.
  • If we are planning a joint delivery with a relative, then we are preparing a clothing package for him.

List of required documents

We take with us:

  • Identity document (passport).
  • OMS policy (compulsory health insurance).
  • An exchange card issued in the antenatal clinic with all analyzes and examinations.
  • Generic certificate. It is issued by an obstetrician-gynecologist at a antenatal clinic at 30 weeks with a singleton pregnancy. If the pregnancy is multiple, the certificate is issued at 28 weeks.
  • Sick leave, opened in the antenatal clinic. It is usually issued together with the generic certificate within a specified time frame.
  • Contract for paid management of childbirth and the postpartum period (if the contract was concluded on an individual basis).

Putting together the first package: what should you take with you to childbirth?

This group includes things necessary for a woman during childbirth and for a baby immediately after birth.

For ourselves we take the following:

  • Cotton robe and chemise. You can purchase the kit immediately.
  • Two pairs of warm socks (not woolen). Chills often appear during childbirth. They can also come in handy after childbirth.
  • Washable flat shoes.
  • Pure drinking still water. We take 2 bottles of 0.5 ml. You can take a thermos with herbal tea, if it is not prohibited by the rules of the maternity hospital, as well as light food. But, as a rule, there is no particular appetite during childbirth.
  • Small towel (terry). Useful for rubbing your face with cold water.
  • Hygienic lipstick. During childbirth, lips dry out very much, and lipstick will help to avoid drying out and the formation of microcracks.
  • If your hair is long, remember to put on an elastic band or hair clip.
  • Elastic stockings or bandages for the lower extremities. Especially if there are varicose veins in the legs.
  • Disposable toilet seat covers.

We take to the delivery room for the child:

  • Diaper size NB (for babies up to 5 kg).
  • A cap with ties or a thin hat.
  • Anti-scratch socks and mittens.
  • Flannel diaper.
  • A bike blanket.

Baby things are needed immediately after the birth of a baby. They must be washed and ironed on both sides, except for the diaper.

If childbirth is planned with a partner, then he needs to take the following:

  • The passport.
  • Conclusion of fluorographic examination. Other tests may be needed. This should be clarified in the hospital in advance.
  • Clean clothes (light trousers, T-shirt or surgical suit), change of shoes.
  • Disposable mask and cap.
  • Camera or camcorder (optional).

Putting together the second package: things for stay in the postpartum ward

In 2 hours after successful delivery, the mother and the newborn are transferred to the “mother and child” ward, in which they are kept for about 3 days. For this period, you need to take the following with you:

What to take with you for your child?

Some maternity hospitals prohibit bringing any supplies for the newborn, and only allow disposable diapers and creams. But many institutions do not prevent this, and even recommend bringing personal belongings for the child, up to diapers.

Therefore, it is better to check in advance in the hospital what you can take with you. If there are no special restrictions, then for a newborn we take the following:

Clothes:

  • hats or caps - 3-4 pcs;
  • anti-scratch mittens and socks - 2-3 pairs;
  • thin and warm undershirts - 4 pieces each;
  • sliders or semi-overalls (thin and warm) - 4 pcs;
  • bike blanket.

All things for the baby must be washed and ironed on both sides.

If the estimated weight of the child fits from 3 to 3.7 kg, then the size can be taken as 56. If the baby is expected to be large, then it is better to take things one size larger (62).

Putting together a package for discharge

For a newborn, we prepare:

Things for mom:

  • cosmetic bag with decorative cosmetics;
  • hair dryer or curling iron (according to preference);
  • odorless gel or hairspray;
  • hairpins, elastic bands, hair ornaments;
  • we take clothes (better for looser), shoes;
  • perfume or eau de toilette should not be taken, they can cause allergies in a newborn.

It is imperative to take care of the transportation of the newborn from the hospital home. Purchase a child seat or infant car seat for children from birth in advance.

If you plan to transport your child by taxi, you need to notify the dispatcher about the need for a child seat.

When leaving the hospital, do not forget to take all personal belongings, and most importantly, documents:

  • medical birth certificate for registration of a newborn at the registry office;
  • discharged epicrisis from the history of the development of the newborn for the district pediatrician;
  • an extract from the birth history for the gynecologist from the antenatal clinic.

If childbirth started unexpectedly, and the packages have not yet been collected, then you should not panic. Many maternity hospitals provide women and newborns with everything they need. The main thing is to take the necessary documents for admission to the hospital. The rest of the things can be collected by relatives and brought a little later.
