1st row (= out. Row): 1 person., * 1 out., 1 person. *, Repeat from * to * to the end of the row. 2nd row: knit all loops.

In height, repeat these 2 p.

After 9 cm knitting with a curly elastic band, finish the faces. next to (front side).

Continue the work with a relief pattern:

1st row (= out. Row): 3 persons., * 3 out., 3 persons. *, Repeat from * to * to the end of the row.

2nd row: knit all loops with the front ones.

When the length of the back is 78 (79) 80 cm, close the middle 17 points for the neckline and finish both sides separately.

To round the neckline, close from the inner edge at the beginning of the next 2 p. 3, 2 p.

At the same time, from the outer edge, close for the shoulder bevel at the beginning of each row by 9, 9, 9 (10, 10, 10) 11, 11, 11 p.

Before (shorter than the back!)

Knit like a back, until the length of the part is 58 (59) 60 cm.Then close the middle 9 sts for the neckline and finish both sides separately.

To round the neckline, close from the inner edge at the beginning of each row for 3, 2, 2, 1, 1 p.

When the length of the piece is 66 (67) 68 cm, close the loops for the shoulder bevel, as described for the back.

Assembly

Sew the details from the front side with mattress and knitted seams = mattress - longitudinal edges of the parts (= 1 p. X 1 p.), Knitted seam - edges with closed loops.

Sew shoulder seams (seam must not stretch!)

Armhole bars
Measure down 26 (27) 28 cm on both sides of the shoulder seam and attach markers. Between the markers, dial from the front side of the product onto the needles No. 5 along the edge of the armhole of the loop: 1 st from each row, skipping every 6th p. (the number of loops is odd). Knit with an elastic band = alternately 1 person., 1 out. When the width of the plank is approximately 3 cm, close the loops.

Assembly (continued)

Sew side seams, including armhole strips, leaving the lower edges of the front 12 cm long for the cuts open. Fold the armhole strips in half, turn them to the wrong side and sew.
Strapping the incisions
On knitting needles No. 3.5, dial from the front side of the product along each edge of the cut (separately) loops = 1 st from each row, knit the next wear. a row of front and close loops with front ones.

Place the front edge of the incision on the back one by a width of 1 p. And sew at the top (from the front and back sides).

Collar
On circular needles No. 5, dial 114 sts along the edge of the neck from the front side of the product and knit in a circle with an elastic band = alternately 3 persons., 3 out. After 6 cm, switch to circular needles number 6 and continue knitting with the same pattern. When the collar is about 30 cm long, close the loops freely according to the pattern.

Vests are a common part of men's, women's and children's clothing. This is not surprising, because the vest will not only help you keep warm, but also diversify your wardrobe. Vests are versatile to wear: they can be worn with a dress, trousers, short or long skirts, leggings, etc. And the variety of their types amazes the imagination: monochromatic and multi-colored, made of thin or thick yarn, lace and openwork, short and elongated, with external, internal or without pockets, etc.

If you have never knitted before, then you need to master the basic basics: a set of loops, knitting of front, back and edge loops, how to close loops or increase their number in the process.

Here, training videos on the Internet can come to your aid.

Before starting work, try to knit a pattern that will be present on the product. This will help you see how it will look on the finished product and avoid possible mistakes.

How to make a vest pattern?

The pattern for the knitted product is slightly different from the sewn one due to the elasticity of the knitted fabric. That is why they do not need to be made with great precision. It will not be difficult even for a novice needlewoman to make a pattern.

There are two ways to make a vest pattern:

 • By tracing the existing vest and further fitting the pattern to the desired product, i.e. changing the shape of the neck, length and width of the future vest. But using this method, you can make a mistake with measurements "by eye" and in the future run the risk of getting not the result you expected.
 • Making a pattern by taking measurements. To do this, we measure the girth of the chest (OG), the circumference of the neck (ОШ), the length of the product (CI), the width of the back. In the course of work you will need: a pencil, an eraser, a ruler, and paper for patterns.

Below is an algorithm for constructing a pattern for the following parameters: OG = 96 cm, OR = 36 cm, CI = 56 cm, back width = 34 cm.
1. On paper, draw a rectangle with height = CI and length = OG.
2. Draw a vertical line in the center.

3. Now calculate the depth of the armhole, for this we subtract the width of the back from 1/2 of the girth (OG), and divide the result by two. For example ((OG 96: 2) - back width 34): 2 = 7 cm.
4. Calculate the height of the armhole: OG: 6 + 5. For example, OG 96: 6 + 5 = 21 cm.

5. Draw your results on paper. Connect the armhole cutout with a rounded line.

6. To build the neckline, divide the neck circumference by three. This will be the width of the neckline on the back of the product. Example: OS 36: 3 = 12 cm. Accordingly, measure 1/2 of the result obtained from the middle of the rectangle on each side, for example, 12: 2 = 6 cm.
7. Raise the level of the neckline by 2 cm and connect it to the shoulder with a straight line. Connect the neckline with a rounded line through the upper part of the rectangle.

Everything, the pattern of the back of the future product is ready. Now make a pattern for the front shelves of the vest. To do this, you need to repeat all the steps, with the exception of drawing the neck.
8. To calculate the depth of the neck on the front shelf, you need OR: 6 + 2. For example, OR 36: 6 + 2 = 8 cm.

9. Put the resulting number of centimeters down from the level of the neck and connect with a rounded line with the central line of the pattern.

The pattern of your future vest is ready. If you plan to tie the neck and armhole with an elastic band, then increase their depth on the pattern by the height of the elastic.

How to choose yarn and knitting needles?

Yarn and knitting needles should be selected based on the recommendations for the selected model. If you want to buy yarn of a different type than indicated in the instructions, and are in doubt with the choice, you can seek advice from a consultant in the store. As a rule, sellers are often fond of knitting themselves and can provide qualified assistance.

In the instructions for choosing a yarn, numbers are often indicated, for example, 100 g / 150 m. This indicates the ratio of weight to length of the yarn, that is, so many grams includes that many meters. The fewer meters of yarn indicated on the package, the thicker it is.
When choosing knitting needles, the basic rule applies: they are selected 1 mm thicker than yarn. But there are some peculiarities:
- If you are going to knit a vest from thick yarn, then choose knitting needles 1.5-2 mm thicker than the thread so that the fabric is elastic and not rough.

 • For downy yarn like mohair or angora, choose knitting needles 2-3 mm larger, then the finished product will acquire airiness and fluffiness.
 • Knitting needles 5 or 6 work well for yarn called "grass".
 • To tie the bottom of the product, armholes or neck, choose knitting needles one size smaller than those that will be used for the main work. This will prevent the finished product from deforming during washing and wearing.
 • If you have chosen a pattern of braids, then take the knitting needles half a size larger than the recommended one, if the pattern is supposed to be openwork, then half a size smaller.

Before buying in the store, be sure to knit 6-7 rows of 10 loops with the selected knitting needles and yarn to see how it will look in the finished product. Note that for beginners, the knitting density is stronger, so you can choose one size larger knitting needles. Continue to keep tight when knitting. If the canvas is very tight, then the finished vest will look rough. If, on the contrary, the thread tension is too weak, then the thing will quickly lose its shape and stretch. Ideal density is when the loops move freely along the knitting needle, but do not slip out of it.

Choosing a model

First you need to choose the model that you will knit. Samples and detailed instructions can be found in special magazines or on the Internet. As your skill improves, you will be able to design patterns and patterns yourself.

From a variety of options, you have to choose what your future vest will be: short or long, with a turn-down collar or with a cutout, with or without pockets, etc.
When choosing, you should take into account the experience in needlework: if you are just starting to knit, then choose models that are easy to perform, i.e. having an uncomplicated pattern and cut.

How to tie a back: a detailed description

Now you have already decided on the model, chose knitting needles and yarn. It's time to get started!

Usually the manufacture of vests, cardigans, dresses, blouses, etc. start by knitting the back.

1. Cast on the required number of loops and knit 4 cm with an elastic band on 2 faces. x 2 int.
2. After that, start knitting the back with the front satin stitch or the chosen pattern in accordance with the pattern. If the pattern is very voluminous, then along the edges of the work, you need to knit several loops with the front ones, so that later when assembling the seam does not look rough.
3. The vest can be rectangular or fitted. To get the waist on the back, you need to evenly decrease, and then add the required number of loops on each side in every 4 row, checking the pattern. To reduce the number of loops, you need to knit together two adjacent loops after a certain interval. If you need to increase the number of loops, then divide the yarn in the loop in half into its constituent threads and first knit a loop from the first half, and then from the second. This will create two loops from one.
4. Having knitted the desired length of the product, start making armholes. To do this, cut the loops on both sides in every second row to keep the line smooth. Knit the rest straight.
5. The back of the vest can be made without beveling the shoulders and neckline, simply by closing all the loops at the desired height of the product. But if you want the vest to fit more aesthetically on the figure, you will have to knit the neckline and shoulders.

How to tie the shelves

In order for the work to be uniform in terms of knitting density and bends, it is recommended to knit both shelves at the same time, using one pair of knitting needles and two skeins of yarn.

The algorithm of work is identical to the order of knitting of the back, with the exception of some nuances:

- If the vest is supposed to be worn with a belt or with hook fasteners, then for each shelf you need to dial half of the total number of loops on the back.
- If the vest will be fastened with buttons, then you need to take into account the strips, which are equal to 3 cm (about 8 loops) and are located on each shelf. Since the planks lay on top of each other during wearing, the number of loops of each plank can be reduced by 4 loops. Thus, in order to knit each shelf, you need to dial half of the backrest loops minus 4 loops. For example, if you had 160 loops on your back, then to knit each shelf you need to cast on 76 loops (160: 2 -4 = 76).
Further, the shelves are knitted similarly to the back to the level of the neck.

How to cut the neckline, in detail?

The neckline on the back and shoulder bevels are usually knitted at the same time.

To indicate the future cut and the number of loops in it, you need to attach the work to the pattern and check it against it. It is important to consider that if the finished product has an elastic band, then the depth of the cut should be increased by 1-2 cm.
Next, reduce the work at the beginning, middle and end by 6 loops. In the next, purl, row, knit the shoulder to the neckline, then take another thread from another skein of yarn, thread it into the first loop following the neckline and tie it into a knot. Now you have two jobs with separate threads. For even knitting and for convenience, you can work simultaneously with two canvases on the same knitting needles.
In the next, front, row, close two loops on each canvas on each edge. After another row, close one loop on each side on both sides of the work. Check with the pattern. If the length of the product is reached, then all loops can be closed.
Some knitters work with shoulders alternately: for this, they fix the loops of the fabric left without thread on a separate knitting needle or in a special pin. After they finish one side of the back, go back to the one left earlier, fasten the thread and tie the rest of the back. You can use any method you choose.
When tying the neckline on the front shelves, you need to take into account its shape: the neckline can be V-shaped or U-shaped, wide or narrow, deep or not. Again, you need to take into account the strapping, if any. To count the number of loops to close, attach the work to the pattern. If the edges of the cutout are shallow, then the loops will need to be closed in every second row. In other cases, the number of rows may vary. The bevels of the shoulders on the shelves are designed in the same way as on the back.

Assembling a vest, how to sew vest shelves?

Before you start assembling the product, you need to steam all the parts through cheesecloth, carefully, without pulling them out. Then, in turn, attach each shelf to the back with the front sides, combining the armholes, shoulders, and side seams. Assembly seams are made only on the wrong side of the product.
There are two ways to connect parts together:
1. When using a hook. To do this, we make a loop on the thread, we put a hook into it and then in small steps we knit the edge loops of the parts together.
2. Using a thread and a needle. We move along the canvas and sew the edges of the product, introducing the needle perpendicular to it.

How to tie the armhole and neckline?

After assembling the product, the unprocessed armholes and neckline look untidy, the vest looks unfinished. To correct the situation, the edges of the work need to be tied. There are many ways to tie the armhole and neckline using knitting needles or crochet hooks. But for a beginner knitter, at first it is better to master simple tying methods, for example, with a 1 x 1 elastic band.

To do this, you will need a thick gypsy-like needle, circular knitting needles and yarn.

1.Using a needle, pull out several loops from the upper edge of the neckline and throw them over the knitting needle. It is not necessary to pull out the edge loops, but those that are located a row below. Thus, collect on the knitting needle all the loops along the neck.
2. Tie yarn from the skein to the loop next to the gathering seam.
3.Start knitting with an elastic band 1 person. x 1 out. Knit this way for 2-3 cm and close all loops. Hide the thread from the inside of the product.
4. Process the armholes of the vest in the same way.

The advantage of the elastic is its elasticity, due to which it follows the curves of the product.
That's it, your new thing is ready!
