Knitting for children begins with caps for newborns, which are required upon discharge from the maternity hospital in any weather - be it summer or harsh winter, one standard model of a knitted cap will do. The only difference here is the choice of yarn. For summer, it is better to choose cotton with acrylic or a special soft weave - it is important that the hat is soft. If we are talking about winter, then choose 100% acrylic yarn - provided that it is put directly on the baby’s head. Hats with added wool are worn only on the inner textile cap. Doctors themselves do not recommend wearing wool clothes on newborns - this can cause allergies.

Knitting a hat for children from 0 to 6 months is performed in the following sequence:

1. Buy yarn - 100 grams of yarn with the volume of thread for knitting needles No. 3 is enough. Prepare knitting needles No. 3, you can use No. 4 - then the fabric will be loose and suitable for the summer version.

6. Knit 19 stitches with the attached thread. Make a connection between the back and left side parts by knitting the 20th loop of the back part together with the first loop of the left side with a purl loop.
   
7. Turn the work over and repeat the same method of connecting the parts. It turns out that only 20 loops of the back part are knitted, and the side loops are knitted like edge loops with purl loops.

7. Next, the hat is knitted in the round - there will be only 100 stitches on working knitting needles. Knit in a similar way to almost the entire height of the head - it is better to measure directly on the child. Approximately 26-34 rows will be required.
8. Subsequently, decreases are carefully made. To do this, knitted 100 loops are divided into an equal number of sections. For example, 100 loops can be divided into 10 sections.
9. Decreases are carried out in the standard way - by knitting 2 loops together, knit or purl, as follows from the drawing and the selected knitting pattern. Carry out decreases at the end of each division into parts - knit together the last 2 loops of the part. Decreases are made in each front row, that is, after two rows.
10. Decrease stitches in this way to the remaining 10 stitches on the knitting needle. Cut a thread 15 cm long from the ball and connect the remaining loops - stretch the thread cut from the ball through all the loops. Pull the thread so that there is no gap left between the loops.
11. Hide the thread in the canvas. Additionally, make a pompom and attach it to the top of the head - this will further hide the gap between the remaining loops.
