Felt is amazing stuff! Bright, malleable, very pleasant to work with. You can create many beautiful, interesting and useful gizmos from it. Earlier, we talked about how to make a keychain key holder, a bright topiary and an educational panel for children.

In this master class, we will introduce you to the process of making a stylish and compact felt wallet with your own hands. Despite its small size, it is very functional - it has compartments for everything you need - for bills, for coins and for plastic cards, and it is not at all difficult to sew!

How to sew a felt wallet with your own hands

Cut out parts of the specified size from hard felt. On the upper right and lower left parts, departing from the edges by 0.5 cm, draw a line with a marker or chalk on three sides, rounding the corners. We will sew along these lines, and cut the rest, thus obtaining a perfectly straight edge.

We take a piece with a slot and a zipper, prepare a couple of pins.

We put a zipper under the part, align and fix with pins.

Carefully, making sure that nothing is displaced, we attach a zipper, remove the pins.

We fasten the ends of the threads on the back side and cut off the protruding tails of the zipper.

Now we take the next large part and try on all four card pockets exactly in the middle.

We attach one of the pockets, only along the bottom edge.

In the same way, we attach the second and third pockets, shifting them by 0.3-0.5 cm relative to each other. The line, as before, is placed only along the bottom edge. We attach the last pocket with a U-shaped seam, capturing the sides of all the underlying parts into it.

Now we take a rectangular piece with a side of 9 cm and attach a pocket to it.

It remains only to make the valve. Place the top of the magnetic button on the strap.

Fold the strap in half and sew.

Cut exactly to the edge of the semicircular rectangular end and attach it to the main part of the valve.

Now it remains to put everything together. We fold in layers the details with a zipper, with pockets for cards and the last one, with a front pocket.

We sew along the line marked by the marker, not paying attention to the slight displacement of the layers relative to each other, this is inevitable, but not scary.

With scissors or a knife, stepping back a couple of millimeters from the seam, cut off the excess. The edge is smooth.

All that remains is to stitch the flap to the top edge, at the same time closing the zippered coin pocket with this seam.

Despite its small size, it is very functional - it has compartments for everything you need - for bills, for coins and for plastic cards, and it is not at all difficult to sew!

Making a felt wallet: an easy way to create a bright accessory

There are many ways to create colorful accessories. The simplest is felt sewing. With your own hands, you can create a unique thing that fully meets your requirements.

In felt sewing, as well as in fabric sewing, there are both very simple patterns and quite complex ones. Consider an easy way to sew a beautiful wallet. To do this, you will need the following materials: felt of several colors, floss threads, tailor's pins, scissors, a button (preferably on a leg), beads, sequins, a ruler and a needle.

Two rectangular pieces need to be cut out of felt. One of them is a wallet pattern, and the second is a front part decoration. The size of the main pattern is 23cm x 17.5cm, the second piece is smaller - 16cm x 6cm.

To form a wallet, bend the edge along the shorter side at a distance of 7 cm. Fasten the fold and sew the edges with a "loop" (overcast) seam along the entire resulting perimeter.

Then we start decorating. We take arbitrary patterns, cut out the details from the multi-colored felt and sew them to the detail that serves as the decoration of the front part. For example, an applique made of flowers. For this we use prepared beads, sequins and floss threads. To keep the applique in one place during the process, you need to secure it with tailor's pins. After completing the decor, we sew the resulting detail to the wallet cover. Here is such an interesting, uncomplicated and quick way to get a new accessory.

Children's accessories.

You can make a very funny and bright wallet from felt, which is perfect for girls. This requires a pattern:

It shows half of the blanks, one of which is of a classic rectangular shape, and the other with rounded corners. We cut out two parts, make a slot in the middle, into which we will subsequently sew a zipper. Then take felt of other colors and cut out the "Cake" applique.

We make one of the details of the pattern front and sew on it an applique, ribbon or other decor as desired. We combine the two parts of the wallet so that the slots coincide. We apply a zipper to them so that it connects both parts at once, and sew. We carefully fold the wallet in half and sew all four layers with a overcast seam. The wallet is ready.

An interesting idea to make wallets in the form of animals, for example, an elephant:

Wallets in the form of funny triangles can also be attributed to children's accessories. For them, you will need to cut out two triangles and one rectangle, the length of which is equal to the perimeter of the sides of the triangular part, and the width is determined by the desired thickness of the wallet. The details are sewn together, a slit is made in the rectangle and a zipper is sewn in.

The place where the rectangle connects can be hidden by sewing on a contrasting rectangle of felt. Then a loop is sewn in the corner opposite to this side, and the wallets themselves are decorated with beads and embroidery to make a funny face. Coin holders can be made in the form of vegetables, citrus fruits or berries, the production is quite simple, so we will not dwell on it. Here, in the manufacture of the most important tool is imagination and initial knowledge of the pattern.

Women's wallets.

Women's wallets can be a strict classic or a modern volumetric shape.

To create the classic version, you need to print a standard pattern, which consists of a number of rectangular pieces of various sizes.

Details can be cut out of colorful felt and sewn into a single piece.

A purse with a blown shape will look original. Sewing it is easy: just take a piece of felt of an oval shape and a rectangle shape, which will serve as a lining. Fasten these two parts, placing the rectangle in the center of the oval. Then shape the main part of the wallet, gathering around the edge. Sew on the cover of the desired shape and the selected fastener.

It is worth highlighting another interesting way to create a wallet. For its manufacture, standard forms of parts are taken, which are used when sewing a wallet with a clasp. The “highlight” of this model will be the decor of the felt itself: before cutting out, you need to lay and sew the puffs. Further, the process is standard: the lining is cut out and sewn on and the zipper is sewn in. Additionally, you can decorate with a chain that will also serve as a handle for easy wearing.

We need:
gray or any other color hard felt, not very thick - 1-1.2 mm;
beautiful fabric, leather, suede or any material of your choice for a decorative insert;
lightning 15-16 cm;
metal clasp of any convenient design;
seals (see details of the work description);
threads, needles, scissors and other common sewing utensils;
iron;
sewing machine;
printer for printing patterns.
When all the materials are prepared, you need to print the pattern.
I tried to prepare it in the most convenient form for use - I placed it on A4 sheets, which can be printed in a 1: 1 scale and used immediately.
Attention! To get sheets of patterns in large size - right-click on each of the 4 images below and select "Open in a new tab" - then the pictures will open in large size. Each of them must be saved to your computer and sent to print.

On the last sheet there is a square with sides 1 cm by 1 cm - it is given so that after printing it is possible to check the scale with a ruler (that is, the square should ideally turn out to be 1 cm by 1 cm on the printed sheet).
Author's pattern, provided for personal non-commercial use, when copying on other resources, I ask you from the bottom of my heart to remember this and indicate the source :)
I recommend printing immediately on thick paper - at least 200 g / m2, so later it will be much more convenient to transfer its contours to the material.

Cut out all the details along solid lines. Dotted lines indicate seam lines and markings. It is desirable to transfer them to the material when cutting.

Let's start cutting. We will prepare the necessary materials - now these are felt, fabric and seals.

All felt parts can be cut without additional, in addition to the indicated, seam allowances, except for the main ones - the inner and outer walls, on which I recommend leaving an allowance of about 1 cm for the final even trim.
We cut the sides and details for the inner pocket with a zipper in two copies, all the rest - in one copy.

We cut a piece of fabric along the inner perimeter of the felt frame for the outside, with an allowance of 1 cm.
We cut the seal for the fabric insert in the same way, only without the allowance.
For the fabric insert, I used a soft seal, always on an adhesive basis. In stores of sewing materials, especially for patchwork, you can find a wide variety of seals, especially a wide range of imported ones - I always advise you not to save on this, because, in many ways, it is the seal that often determines and sets the quality and appearance of the product. First of all, of course, this applies to bags and wallets.
We glue the seal onto the fabric insert with an iron:

Now we combine the fabric insert with the felt frame and sweep the details.

The perimeter can now be sewn.

Now it's the turn of the second seal. This is a special seal for bags, as it is called, made in Germany. It is quite expensive, today a little more than 1,300 rubles. running meter (width 90 cm), adhesive, dense, rather thin, but very hard. It feels like dense leather from the upper non-adhesive side.
We cut out this seal a couple of millimeters less than the felt frame - just so that later it does not stick out of the seam.

We glue it with an iron. The next photo clearly shows the ratio of the size of the seal part and the markings on the felt.

Now let's start decorating the inside of the wallet. Let's start with the pockets. First of all, we will lay decorative stitches on the upper sides (wherever there are semicircular cutouts) of all the details of the pockets, as well as the sides.

We combine the details of the pockets in accordance with the diagram on the pattern.

And we sequentially attach them to each other, forming two solid blocks with pockets.

Trying on the blocks to the main part of the inner side of the wallet. We focus on the markup, it will help to do it smoothly.

We attach.

The interior is ready, we are going to work on the zip pocket.

First, we combine the zipper with one of the two parts and sweep it.

Then, without cutting off the threads, on the other side we put the second part, also combining it with the zipper and we sweep along the second circle through two parts at once.

Details are evenly combined and fixed, can be stitched. So it turns out from the outside:

We cut off the ends of the zipper, if they stick out, we singe the edges with a lighter so that they do not frown. We sew together two details of the pockets around the perimeter and cut the inner one along the seam.

Now it remains to fold the pocket in half and lay one more line:

Now let's connect it to the sidewalls.

To do this, first you should sweep them:

The main part of the work has already been done, it remains to connect all the blocks of parts and install the locks:

Now we pay special attention to the markings on the seam line - we sew along the perimeter, without closing it in the places indicated by the marks! The photo shows where to leave the edges uncovered:

Now we take a zippered pocket with side inserts and attach it between the marks, complementing the missing lines:

We fold the wallet and add the remaining two lines to the sides, it is advisable to first sweep them so that the line comes out even.

That's all you are done, all you have to do is cut off the extra felt along the seams - we try to cut it evenly using sharp scissors.

It remains to put the top of the castle:

How to sew a felt wallet with your own hands for children

Sewing technology consists in the sequence of the following steps:

Make a detailed pattern in accordance with the size of the future wallet. It is necessary to cut out all the details.
Place all paper parts neatly on the felt. Make sure that they have the same direction along the fabric.
Circle every detail with chalk.
And you should also prepare the fabric for the lining and make a pattern on it.

IMPORTANT: When cutting felt pieces, do not allow seam allowances. Whereas for the pattern of the lining, it is necessary to take into account the allowance. It is enough to leave 1 cm for the allowance.

Cut out the cut out parts.

Then the assembly of the product begins. Sew on the smallest details. They are sewn on to form separate pieces. For example, you should sew an inner pocket. If it is made with a zipper, then sew it into it.

By the way, you can work with felt without using cushioning and lining materials.
