Many people are mistaken in thinking that sensitive facial skin is a skin type. She is sensitive only because she reacts inadequately to various external factors. Signs of sensitive facial skin are peeling, redness, irritation, feeling of skin tightness, etc. What can the skin react to and how to care for it?

Causes and types of sensitive facial skin

As already mentioned, an inadequate reaction sensitive facial skin may occur in response to various external factors. This could be a reaction to cosmetics and salon procedures, to the environment, to the time of year (spring and summer), to cold and ultraviolet radiation.

Sensitive facial skin is special in that it reacts absolutely unpredictably to chemical (and other) substances in decorative and any other cosmetics, especially for products not intended specifically for sensitive facial skin. Depending on the reasons for the reaction to external factors, sensitive skin is divided into 4 main types.

  • Tired skin. Such skin begs for salvation; most often the skin “gets tired” due to improper care: low-quality cosmetics or its abuse. As a result, the protective layer of the skin is destroyed, and it becomes vulnerable to the notorious harmful external factors.

  • Painful skin. Such skin can be dry, oily, or normal. In this case, the first thing you need to do is check your health and begin to treat existing diseases, then the sensitivity of the skin will go away on its own.

The period of inadequate reaction lasts from a month to two years, and the sensitivity of the facial skin may disappear as suddenly as it appeared. The reasons for this skin behavior are most often stress, the recovery period after a serious illness and a course of antibiotic treatment.

  • Weak skin by nature. Most often, blondes and red-haired women have this type of skin; they have the thinnest and lightest skin. This skin is the least protected, has a thin stratum corneum, does not have strong pigment and produces little oil. All these factors contribute to the manifestation of sensitivity to external stimuli: cold, heat, dust, wind, etc.

How to care for sensitive skin?

First of all, sensitive facial skin needs regular cleansing. You should wash your face in the morning with warm mineral water, and in the evening you should remove dirt and makeup with cleansing milk. Moreover, both in the morning and in the evening you need to use a soft tonic.

Sensitive skin then needs adequate hydration. In the morning, you must apply a light day cream to your skin, which contains moisturizing substances, softening fats and ultraviolet protection. The advantage of such a cream will be the minerals and thermal waters in its composition. Cosmetics for sensitive skin always say “hypoallergenic”. The same applies to decorative cosmetics.

Before going to bed, you should apply a night cream with a regenerating effect to your skin. While you sleep, the active ingredients of the cream heal microtraumas on the skin and provide its protective layer.

As for masks, those with sensitive skin should avoid “hardening” masks and foam masks. Lean on nourishing and moisturizing masks. Peeling is also contraindicated for such skin.

Sensitive facial skin is not a death sentence. As you can see, it is only an indicator of the body’s reaction to external factors or indicates that there are health problems. This kind of skin is quite easy to care for; the only condition is that it needs to be done regularly.
